Why this play on words?
Because Roupers are gourmet people. Or in other words, they are funkadelic, super great, and cool. They are gourmet.
Haven't heard gourmet in that sense before? Get used to it.
(examples: Kate Bush is gourmet. Meaningful conversations in Manhattan subway terminals are gourmet. This blog in fact too is very much gourmet. You are because you are reading it. Portland used to be gourmet...etc, etc)
